District Health Department #2 does not currently offer smoking cessation or stop smoking classes. However, we are able to provide residents with Michigan Smokers Quit Kits and refer them to local resources that are available.
Currently, Tawas St. Joseph Health Systems offers Tobacco Cessation Counseling for anyone who wants to stop smoking. The hour-long session is facilitated by a Liscensed Respiratory Therapist and consists of education, developing a quit plan, discussing nicotine replacement options and more. Tobacco counseling is a covered benefit through many insurance plans and a discount is available for clients without insurance. To schedule an appointment or for further information Please Click Here or call (989) 362-0155.
Many health insurance plans will cover the cost of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), including patches, gum, medication, and telephone counseling. Please contact your insurer for more information.
We also encourage residents to call the Michigan Quit Line offered by the Michigan Department of Community Health. 1-800-QUIT-NOW. (1-800-784-8669). The quitline is available 24 hours a day, free of charge to anyone. Ongoing counseling and Nicotine Replacement Therapy may be free for those who qualify.
