H1N1 for Schools

Since the H1N1 flu has been most prevalent among school-age children, educational personnel must be prepared to deal with the illness first-hand. This includes promoting ways to prevent the spread of flu and monitoring for influenza-like symptoms. It is not recommended that schools close in the event of a suspected or actual case of H1N1. School closure decisions are to be made locally; school and public health officials will work collaboratively make a decision that is best for the students and community.  Students and staff should be encouraged to stay home with flu-like symptoms, and may safely return 24 hours after they no longer have a fever without the use of medication.
