Michigan's Smoke-Free Air Law

The District Health Department No. 2 Clean Indoor Air Regulation process has been suspended in light of action by the Michigan Smoke-Free Air Law. This law was passed by Michigan Legislature and signed by the Governor in December 2009. Michigan is the 38th state to prohibit smoking in public places. Effective May 1, 2010:

All public businesses, including restaurants, bars and hotels/motels/inns are required to be smoke-free. The only exceptions are tobacco specialty shops, designated cigar bars and the gaming floors of casinos.

The Smoke-Free Air Law will protect children and non-smoking citizens from the dangers of second-hand smoke. It will also allow for healthier work environments for employees. Tobacco smoke contains toxins and carcinogens which are responsible for disease and death among innocent bystanders. CLICK HERE to see second-hand smoke statistics from the American Cancer Society.
