Women Infant Children (WIC)

WIC provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for income eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five. WIC program and income guidelines are located in the links on the right.
WIC is a health and nutrition program that has demonstrated a positive effect on pregnancy outcomes, child growth and development.
WIC Facts:
• Each month, more than 200,000 moms, babies, and children less than age 5 receive nutritious foods from the Michigan WIC Program. WIC foods are worth $30-$112 or more per month for each participant.
• WIC participants receive help with nutrition education and breastfeeding, as well as referrals to other health services.
• One out of every two babies born in Michigan receives WIC benefits.
• The earlier a pregnant woman receives nutritional benefits from WIC, the more likely she is to seek prenatal care and deliver a normal weight infant.

Project Fresh

Project Fresh is a program that provides fresh Michigan produce to consumers who are low income and nutritionally-at-risk.
Clients may be receive a 15-20 minute food and nutrition presentation before receiving a $20 booklet of coupons to be used at participating farmers' markets between June 1st and October 31st.
Women and children currently enrolled in WIC are eligible for Project Fresh. Seniors may also be elibigle through Senior Project Fresh.
