Why Immunize?

Communicable diseases are becoming rare due to vaccinations. Unless we can completely eliminate the disease, it is important to keep immunizing. Vaccinations protect against the risk of disease infection by causing the immune system to develop antibodies that may help fight the actual disease in the future.

Several vaccinations are available at DHD2, including, but not limited to, Hepatitis A & B, DTaP, Hib, Influenza, HPV, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, and Pneumoccoccal.

Immunizations

DHD2 works with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in reducing vaccine-preventable diseases by providing free or affordable immunizations to all people from birth through adulthood.

Fees

Immunizations do not have to be expensive. DHD2 has special programs for vaccinations. Please refer to the programs below to see qualification criteria.

VFC Program

The Vaccines for Children Program provides free immunizations to children age 18 and younger. To qualify, a child must meet one of the following conditions to receive VFC vaccinations:

  • Medicaid-eligible or Medicaid-enrolled
  • Uninsured or without any health insurance coverage
  • Underinsured or has insurance that does not cover vaccinations
  • American Indian or Alaskan Native

*An administration fee of $10 is requested based upon ability to pay. However, if a client is unable to pay, DHD2 will not deny the vaccine.

MIVRP

The Michigan Vaccine Replacement Program offers select vaccinations to adults 19 years and older free of charge*. Adults must be without health insurance or underinsured. MMR, Td, Tdap, Hepititis A & B are among the covered immunizations.

Insurance

Many health insurance plans cover routine immunizations. DHD#2 bills all insurances for children 18 years and younger. Adults with health insurance coverage will have to pay out-of-pocket for the vaccinations and administration fees, but will be issued a receipt that may be submitted to the health insurance company for reimbursement.

MCIR

The Michigan Care Improvement Registry benefits health care organizations, schools, licensed childcare programs, and Michigan’s citizens by consolidating immunization information from multiple providers. This reduces vaccine-preventable diseases, over-vaccination, and allows providers to see up-to-date patient immunization history. Anyone who has received a vaccination after 1998 is registered on MCIR unless an opt-out form was submitted.

Flu Shots

The 2019-2020 flu shot is now available at each of our DHD2 clinics. It is recommended that everyone 6 months and older receive a flu shot. The cost is $40, however most insurance plans cover annual flu shots. Please see the insurance information above for the billing procedures. Walk-in patients may receive the flu shot if a nurse is available, however appointments are preferred.
