Hearing and Vision Screening Program

As required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), District Health Department No. 2 offers FREE hearing and vision screening services to children ages 3-18 throughout the four-county area (Alcona, Iosco, Ogemaw, Oscoda counties). 

The goal of the hearing and vision screening programs is to identify children with potential hearing and/or vision concerns and assist them in finding care. Early detection, and treatment if necessary, can greatly enhance a child’s success in school. Most children will be screened for hearing and vision at local schools during the school year. Some children may miss the school-based screening due to absences or for other reasons like being homeschooled. The routine screens in area schools are based on the MDHHS guidelines shown below. Parents are encouraged to schedule appointments at one of our offices if your child has not completed the recommended screenings in a school setting.
